Frank Ignatius Seriphic Zimbeaux

Frank Ignatius Seriphic Zimbeaux (1861-1935) of Pittsburgh, London, Paris, New York City; Carthage, Missouri, and Salt Lake City, was the father of Francis Zimbeaux.  He knew Matisse and other famous artists during his residence in the French and British capitals.  He arrived back in the U.S. in 1914, with he and his wife, concert pianist Clotilda Wehlish.  Zimbeaux moved to the west in 1924 when Henri Moser purchased a ranch in Malad, Idaho.  Zimbeaux painted with Moser while on the ranch, but his long-term residence was Salt Lake City.  Zimbeaux would paint small canvases while seated on street corners selling his paintings to interested patrons.  The Beehive House and Eagle Gate, Salt Lake, 1933 and Temple Spires are indicative of his paintings.
