Whether it’s a kickin’ chorus of “Johnny B. Goode” on his electrified Baseball Bat Guitar or a studio-quality piano love song from “Phantom of the Opera”, the Music and Comedy of Lee Fugal is sure to be a hit with your group.
Lee also tells about and demonstrates the “10-fingered fireworks” of the stride-bass jazz pianists of the 1920’s and 30’s such as Willie ‘The Lion’ Smith and Fats Waller.
His engineering training (Lee has a Masters in Physics) has helped him invent some very unusual musical instruments—all played expertly—that will amaze and please young and old alike.
Lee entertains on cruise ships, festivals and fairs around the country. His performance credits also include three years at Disneyland, four years as a special events entertainer at Knott's, national television, and several performance tours of Europe and Asia.
Here are a few comments from other UPAT presenters:
“We had an excellent turnout for your fabulous concert --the best attended yet! It was entertaining, clean, fun, and we even learned a few things! We had nothing but great comments about the concert afterwards. We had young and old alike dancing and clapping along with your music.”--Suzanne Walker, Co-Chair, Midvale Arts Council
“The songs that you play are the ones that most people recognize with a fun twist to them. Your piano and horn playing are outstanding!”--Dianne Carroll, Chair, Kigalia Fine Arts Council
“Everyone enjoyed your masterful playing skills and your musical ‘inventions’. It was a treat for all of us. Thanks again!”--Helene Smith, Chairperson, Taylorsville Arts Council
“We thank you again for traveling to our little town and sharing your big talents. We consider your visit as the highlight of our Celebration.”--Cleveland Days Committee, Cleveland, Utah
Outreach Options:
"Professor Fugal's Magical Musical Inventions" for school children shows the 4 basic musical groups and how anyone can "play" household items using the Physics principles of musical instruments.
Another outreach option is an interactive musical lecture (seated at the piano) on the history of Early Jazz from the French Quadrilles (basis of "The Tiger Rag") to Scott Joplin, "Jellyroll" Morton, and Willie ‘The Lion’ Smith using musical examples.
