The Utah Certificate of Museum Practice is a stand-alone museum studies certificate offered through a partnership between Utah Arts & Museums and the Utah State University Regional Campus and Distance Education program. The certificate is recognized by the Utah Museums Association and is designed for non-traditional students that work with museums including board members, volunteers and museum professionals. Participants take four of the following:
- Museum Exhibitions (Spring 2011)
- Fund Development for Museums (Spring 2011)
- Public Relations and Marketing for Museums (Fall 2011)
- Museum History and Theory (Fall 2011)
- Education and Interpretation in Museums (Spring 2012)
- Museum Collections Management (Spring 2012)
- Caring for Museum Collections (Fall 2012)
- Museum Governance and Leadership (Fall 2012)
- Museum Curatorship

Museum professionals, volunteers and board members can apply for a tuition scholarship towards Certificate of Museum Practice courses. The application process is simple and more than one individual from each organization may apply. Submit a resume and a letter of support from a Utah museum to Wendi Hassan, Utah Arts & Museums, 617 East South Temple, SLC, UT 84102. Please indicate what class the applicant is interested in taking, the museum's annual budget, and the individual’s role in the organization and training goals. Preference will be given to applicants from museums with annual budgets less than $250,000.

Individuals aged 62 and over may audit courses for $10.
The courses are being made available through a partnership between Utah State University's Regional Campuses and Distance Education and the Utah Arts & Museums Office of Museum Services. Completing four of the eight offered courses leads to a stand alone museum studies certificate recognized by the Utah Museums Association.
