ALL applying artists including traditional, ethnic and folk
Remember to submit your best professional work. It is not necessary to submit only child appropriate works. We strongly suggest that you send in documentation showing the depth and range of your work, yet the depth and range of your work should clearly define your artistic voice. We recommend mailing your documentation either by certified, priority, UPS, or any service that has tracking capabilities. It is also in your best interest to send in documentation of high quality; slides or videotapes that are poorly lit, video and audiotapes with background noise, etc., will hinder the panel's ability to review your documentation accurately.
You are welcome to apply to more than one discipline however, acceptance in one category does not automatically assume acceptance in all the applied categories. Documentation should reflect work from the past 2-3 years. With that in mind, please note the following documentation requirements.
Dance
Submit one VHS videotape or DVD of recent work cued to the desired 10-minute segment along with a Video Documentation Form. The videotape should be recorded in standard speed (SP) with the container AND the videotape clearly labeled with your name. We prefer that you submit only one tape or DVD, with segments of different work separated by a few seconds of blank tape or as seperate chapters if on DVD. If you submit more than one videotape, cue each one. For group performances, clearly identify yourself on each segment of the videotape so that the panel members know who to watch. For example you might identify yourself by placement on the stage or by describing your clothing. Please do not cue videotape to any credit segment that includes your name.
Film/Video
Submit a VHS videotape(s) or DVD(s) of recent work cued to the desired 10-minute segment along with a Video Documentation Form. The videotape/DVD should be recorded in standard speed (SP) with the container AND the videotape clearly labeled with your name. We prefer that you submit only one tape, with segments of different work separated by a few seconds of blank tape or as seperate chapters if on dvd. If you submit more than one videotape/DVD, cue each one. Please do not cue videotape to any credit segment that includes your name.
Literary Arts
Submit typed examples of recent work along with a Literary Documentation Form. Do not put your name on the pages. Place the last four digits of your social security number in the upper right corner of each page. Number pages consecutively and do not staple the pages. Prose writers may submit up to 40 pages of typed manuscript. These should not be bound in manuscripts or books. Poets submit up to 40 pages of poems in varied forms.
Music
Instrumentalists and vocalists submit one audiotape cued to the desired 10-minute segment, or a CD. Clearly identify which tracks to be played on the Audio Documentation Form. Label the audiotape or CD AND the container with your name. For group performances, clearly identify which instrument or voice is yours. Please do not cue audiotape to any credit segment that includes your name. Composers may submit a musical score. Do not put your name on the pages. Place the last four digits of your social security number in the upper right corner of each page. Number pages consecutively and do not staple the pages.
Storytelling
Submit an audiotape, CD, DVD or VHS videotape of recent work cued to the desired 10-minute segment along with an Audio or Video Documentation Form. The videotape should be recorded in standard speed (SP) with the container AND the videotape clearly labeled with your name. Label the audiotape, DVD or CD AND the container with your name. We recommend that at least one of the stories be of your own creation and not an adaptation of a well know folk tale or story.
Theater
(includes mime, reader's theater) Submit one DVD or VHS videotape of recent work cued to the desired 10-minute segment of a performance in which you act, or a performance of a dramatic script written by you, along with a Video Documentation Form. For group performances, clearly identify yourself on each segment of the videotape or DVD. For example you might identify yourself by placement on the stage, by describing your clothing, or by your role. You may also submit a written script, along with a Literary Documentation Form. Submit written scripts in their entirety. Do not put your name on the pages, rather put the last four digits of your social security number in the upper right corner of each page. Number pages consecutively and do not staple the pages.
Visual Arts
(includes, but is not limited to, painting, sculpture, clay, printing, photography, mixed media, installations, digital graphics, cartooning, drawing) Submit slides, prints of original works, digital images, or original works for 20 separate works. Number each slide/print/image/original work in the order you wish them shown and match the numbers on the Visual Documentation Form. Slides should be numbered consecutively with an arrow in the upper right corner indicating top, and your name on each slide. Detail slides or prints of larger works are acceptable, but you should not send more than two or three views of the same work (detail slides do not count as part of the original 20). When appropriate, indicate the actual size of the work within the slide. (For example, place a penny or pencil next to the work to visually show the size.) Collaborative work needs to be clearly explained as to the artist's specific role in the work. In addition to the slides/prints/images/original works, artists may include catalogues and raissonnes of their work (one copy), but these do not substitute for the required 20 pieces.
Please do not send framed, unprotected or delicate items. The UAC is neither libel for any damage incurred nor will we pay for shipping insurance.
Multi-discipline
Artists who uniquely blend two or more distinct artist disciplines to formulate works of art that are exhibited or performed should use the Video, Visual, Audio, or Literary Documentation Forms listed above that are most appropriate for the art form that is practiced. Your documentation must reflect how you integrate the different disciplines to create a single multi-discipline exhibit or performance.
Because of the difficulty in accurately representing multi-disciplined exhibitions and performances, please call the Arts Education Program at (801)320-9794 for suggestions on how to best submit documentation.
