(Dance)
Tina Misaka has been teaching pre-school through professional dancers since 1974. She is a former member of Fairspace Dance Theatre, The San Francisco Moving Company and Repertory Dance Theatre. She has worked as a movement specialist for Arts in Education Programs sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the California and Utah art councils and as a guest teacher at the University of Utah. Tina is currently teaching at Children's Dance Theatre.
Because she grew up in the environment of Children's Dance Theatre, Tina believes strongly in the development of the creative process. Her classes stress movement, imagination, self-discipline and a positive image. Through problem-solving activities, improvisation and performance, students begin to understand dance as a fun and challenging activity as well as an art form. In a residency, Tina often likes to conclude the program with a performance of the students' own work. Residencies may include movement classes, community workshops, choreography, and teacher composition or improvisation workshops.
Requires a CD/cassette player and a multipurpose room or a room large enough to move around in.
Available for residencies, teacher training, extended projects, collaborations with other artists, and short-term activities.
