In ancient times on June 21st, the longest day of the year, at the time of the Summer Solstice, an ancient culture known as Mound Builders would gather at a place now known as Macon, Georgia. Representatives of 44 tribal towns would come together to share the oral history and stories of the people to be passed down from generation to generation. These ancient ones would give the call NAGONAGOGEE, NAGONAGOGEE ONI-YAH! (It is time for the tale, where is our storyteller?)
These ancient ones were the ancestors of Kabitcha Feke Sego, a full-blood Muscogee who is the oral historian and storyteller for his generation and family among the Muscogee people from Alabama Corsate. Will began storytelling at the age of four and has been trained traditionally by his elders. His traditional training, together with his professional training under actors Jane Alexander, William Shatner, Charlton Heston, and many others, takes him all over the United States, working with a myriad of audiences from teachers to diplomats and world-renowned professionals such as Jane Goodall in her Roots and Shoots program.
The students experience stories taught to Native children of long ago as Will shares the ancient traditional art of storytelling which includes not only listening, but becoming part of the story. Music, language and dance are also incorporated in the storytelling. The workshop culminates in a performance or an all school assembly, community performance, or just classroom sharing. K-12 program available on request. Planning depends on age group.
Requires a Lavalier or stand-up microphone. Available for residencies and short-term activities.
