Kenneth W. Brewer

Ken Brewer died peacefully at his home on March 15, 2006, with his family at his bedside.
Dr. Kenneth W. Brewer was named Utah's poet laureate on January 24, 2003. He published several books of poetry, gave countless readings and conducted many writing workshops throughout the western states. He was recently retired from Utah State University after 32 years in the English Department as a teacher of writing.
Brewer received his Ph.D. in English (Creative Writing) from the University of Utah in 1973. He also held a Masters degree from New Mexico State University, and a BA from Western New Mexico University.
In addition to his successful career as a poet, Brewer had a distinguished teaching career. He focused mainly on creative writing courses, although he began his teaching career teaching Remedial English and Freshman Composition. Before teaching at a University level, he taught English at Las Cruces High School in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
