Willow Stories: Utah Navajo Baskets
Willow
Stories: Utah Navajo Baskets
Navajo rugs and jewelry are world famous, but few people know
that basket weaving has continued on the Utah portion of the
reservation for centuries. This 32 page booklet chronicles
the story of Navajo baskets, an art form long thought to be
extinct, and the exciting recent development of story baskets
that feature images and designs from Navajo legends and beliefs.
The booklet is richly illustrated with both color and b/w
photos featuring the Douglas Mesa weavers and their baskets
as well as essays on basket traditions and Navajo history.
