Utah’s rich film heritage includes not only countless Hollywood feature films and the cutting edge work by independents at the annual Sundance Film Festival, but also the work of Utah’s fine documentary filmmakers.
Many of these filmmakers have chosen artists as their subjects - illuminating the creative process by capturing painters, poets, dancers and musicians as they work. The Utah Film Showcase is designed to make some of this important footage easily available to the public by showing artists talking about or producing their art in film clips taken from these documentaries.
In addition to making film clips accessible, digital versions of each of the documentary films have been produced for preservation purposes, ensuring that both the art and the artists’ personas can be experienced by future generations.
This project was funded through an American Masterpieces Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. It honors the talent, creativity and contributions of Utah artists working in many genres - including those artists who work making documentary films. For information about purchasing any of these films, contact the filmmakers directly.
