38 U.S. Museums Selected for Measurement of Museum Social Impact Study

With a National Leadership Grant from the Institute of Museums and Library Services (IMLS), the Utah Division of Arts & Museums, in partnership with Thanksgiving Point, has selected 38 museums from across the United States to participate in the Measurement of Museum Social Impact (MOMSI) study. These museums will study social impact in their communities, helping the Division further refine a social impact survey.

After a competitive application and review process, 38 museums across the country were selected as host museums for this study. The cohort of host museums represent small and large institutions, range in content focus areas from arts to zoos, and represent every region of the US.

Working with the MOMSI team at the Division, each museum will recruit and survey visitors from their communities. The data collected will inform the museums of their individual social impact on their community and will provide validated data about the museum field generally. Working with these host museums, the Division will ultimately develop and publish a social impact toolkit for broad use.
