Day of the Dead Workshops

DAY OF THE DEAD WORKSHOPS October 2023  We sponsored five Day of the Dead workshops from Noemi Balcazar-Hernandez across the Wasatch Front.  More than 150 people attended and decorated sugar skulls and other projects while learning about this vibrant Mexican tradition.     

Juab County

In October Kristy Carter taught a pottery class at Juab High School for members of the community. It was well received and one happy participant shared that they had never even touched clay before this class.    

Cottonwood High School

In June UDA&M sent artists Jeff Ballard and Clar Amezcua to Cottonwood High School’s Jump Start Program.  Over 80 students learned how to play the drums with Jeff and made Mexcian pinatas with Clar. 

Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation

August 2023 The Arts Education team, along with artists Donna Pence and Paul Heath went to rural Ibapah, Utah to bring art experiences to children there.  While the teenagers of the area worked with SpyHop on a film project, the younger kids spent 4 days making a variety of projects and happy messes at the tribe’s headquarters.

Mata Ortiz Potters

The potters of Mata Ortiz came to Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah to share their pottery expertise with students in December.

Lu Wei Workshop

In September UDAM partnered with the University of Utah to bring artist Lu Wei, and her Yin Writing & Femmage in Chinese Ink Painting workshop to a group of Utah teachers.
