In partnership with the Utah Arts Festival and the Salt Lake City Public Library, the Arts Education Program offered a professional development workshop for K – 12 Utah teachers. This workshop, “Art in Motion”, explored connections between art and engineering. Projects integrated simple machines, multi-media collage, drawing, automaton creation, and 3D motion. “Art in Motion” was taught by Alisa Petersen who is Southern Utah University’s Beverley Taylor Sorenson Endowed Chair of Elementary Arts Education. Alisa challenged teachers to engineer kinetic art pieces and apply the lessons to their students.
