At Mountain View Elementary School, over 320 youth engaged in a year long initiative to improve their risk taking abilities and self confidence through art. Students learned “The Power of the Word Yet,” phrase to encourage a persistent work ethic. Bad Dog Artists taught classes in visual and performing arts to 2nd-4th grade students. Along with creative expression through art, students connected art to science and global communities. Specific projects included, simple machines, Mexican mariachi guitars, aboriginal boomerangs and Indian elephants. Additionally, students learned techniques in drawing, painting, oil pastel, collage, and performance art. Through the“Power of the Word Yet” program, students were given a safe space to grow confidence in themselves and their creative abilities.
